Magrath Museum wants updates

Published on

The Magrath Museum Foundation is hoping for some new updates to its current stock.

Currently, the museum has a number of displays and artifacts that are not displayed.

Because of this, the museum wants moulding to hang pictures from and shelves to store most of the valuable they now own.

Along with mouldings and shelves, the museum has proposed for money to purchase four new display cases for displaying items.

Also, the foundation needs money to pay for a student to work for the summer if the museum was to become the town information centre. This person would remain there so that the building could stay open during the summer hours.

The shelves would remain in the basement of the Library/Museum building.

These shelves will be used to store the undisplayed items.

"Museums don't always display everything," says Bernice Miller, board member.

Miller also proposed that some of the basement be used for setting up displays such as and old-style classroom, blacksmith shop, a displays for brands of farmers in the area, and some agri tools the museum has.

Before the museum can apply for Government grants to non-profit organizations, they must be open for more than 200 hours.  Because the museum opened almost a year ago, the organization cannot apply for the grants.

The museum plans on more fund-raising including a sit-down dinner and garden party.

The proposal from the Museum is being over-looked by town council and a decision will be made within the next few meetings.
