Magrath Sewer Upgrade

Residents along 1st St. East in Magrath will have a new sewer line within the next year.

Infrastructure dollars are in and plans are set for a new sewer main between 1 and 2 Avenue North.  The main will be installed next spring.

The current sewer main is too small to handle the development in the east end of Magrath.  A newer, wider main will be installed to handle back-ups and other problems with the sewer system.  The main will also be dropped a few feet and place lower on the manhole access.

Street paving and curbing

Along with the new sewer main, 1 St. East will also be paved, and avenues and streets within the area will be curbed to match the existing curbs in town.  Paving will take place after the main has been installed.  Town councilors say it will be easier and cheaper to install the main and pave it after rather than paving it and then digging it up to install the sewer main.

Complete pavement overhaul

Certain areas of Magrath currently covered with gravel will be paved within the next two years.  Proposed pavement areas are the pad behind the firehall, the driveway behind the library and the island intersection at the south end of town.

Water treatment upgrades

Along with the sewer and paving, the town will be upgrading the water treatment facility.  Plans for the upgrade include providing services to vacant lots in the town so as not to dig up the streets later when residents move onto the land, and upgrading the pumps at the facility.  Currently the price of water treatment for residents is $22 per month.

This cost will be raised to $27 per month to accommodate the upgrade costs.
