Comets stampeded from playoffs

Raymond Comets spotted the Lethbridge Stampeders a 20-3 lead Saturday - then watched thier season end when the couldn't quite complete the comeback.

The Junior Comets dropped a 20-17 decision to the Stamps, who will now play the Cardston Cougars for the Southern Alberta championship.

Despite the lost, Coach Bernie Orr says he's happy with the team.

"They showed a lot of adversity and they fought back from being down 20-3," says Coach Orr.

Orr says he has a lot of respect for the Stamps

"They are a Class A program and I wish the coaches well against Cardston."

Injuries plaqued the Comets through their 8-2 season.  Dustin Wright and Logan Romeril injured their backs, Aaron Russell came through with broken ribs, Jason Grbavac broke his collarbone.

But through all of this, the team pulled ahead to where they stand now.

Late in the second quarter, with the Comets down 20-3, Mike Schneyder scored the Comets first touchdown of the game with a 42-yard run.

The second touchdown was scored by Logan Romeril on an interception and six-yard run.  Chris Boare added a three-yard field goal.  Schneyder finished off with 177 yards rushing;  Justin Romeril added 68 and Steele Nelson 42.
